Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy & Review Process

Our mission is to recommend the right psychology and existential-themed books to the right readers. Here’s how we work.

How we select books. We consider: the book’s reputation among readers and practitioners; its clarity and usefulness; how well it serves the specific topic or reader level; and, where relevant, its standing in clinical or academic settings. We include books across levels — from accessible introductions to advanced texts — and label who each is best for.

How we review. Our editors read or substantively assess every book we recommend. Ratings and rankings reflect our genuine assessment against the criteria above.

Independence. Affiliate commissions never determine whether a book is included or how it’s ranked. We recommend books we believe in.

Accuracy and updates. We date our articles and revise them as new editions appear or our views evolve. Spotted an error? Email editorial@yalom.com and we’ll fix it.

Our relationship to Irvin D. Yalom. This site is inspired by and frequently discusses Dr. Yalom’s work. Editorial content and recommendations are produced by the Yalom Editorial Team and are not personal endorsements by Dr. Yalom unless explicitly stated.
